Yes, a year ago I did the flash but not the fluid. Before the re-flash the 'hoot' would happen every now and then. That cured the 'hoot', but I also had and still do, a shudder (rarely) when accelerating from a stop.
I did not know that the shudder (slipping or what ever it is) was in the hooting TSB until reading this thread. I will explore the cost of a fluid change with the ZF brand price. Anyone cured a similar shudder with the flash/fluid fix ?

If you currently run Lifeguard6 (gold fluid) you can't change it for the green one just like that.
1. I think your software is for the existing fluid and as far as I know only dealer can upgrade it.
2. You can drain only about 6 liters so 3.5 will stay in there and it should not be mixed with the green fluid. In order to reach acceptable mix of old and new fluid you need to do reflash few times. People are talking about 36 liters of a new fluid what indicates 6 reflashes and a huge expense.
I've just finished ATF change (at least 6 liters change) using Lifeguard6. Old one was almost black and it even lost that ugly smell. New one is golden and smells like hell.![Smile](https://www.audiworld.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)

As far as the flush to get the old fluid out, I was told by ZF that two flushes is sufficient to get enough old fluid out, which is what I am planning to do (even though my car should have the blue stuff in there currently).

Let us know what part numbers and where and how much you get the fluid for. How many miles do you have on your 06 that you need a flush? Or are you getting the hoot? I wouldn't be changing it unless you were having issues..
If you won't need the software flash you can take it to any reputable trans shop to have it done, just bring your fluid.
BTW where did you locate what trans code you had? In vag-com under trans?

I don't think that A8 4.2L comes from the factory with the blue fluid. If your's is filled with blue fluid and has corresponding software it must be done later. You don't say how long do you own that car. It could be done recently so changing it would be just wasting money.
