Anyone using an oil extractor device

At my work, we have a wet dry vac we use for dirty oil, I made an adapter that replaced the hose that fit an 1/8 in plastic tube. I then stuck the hose in the dipstick tube and voila, oil came out at about a quart a minute. 8 minutes of waiting beats an hour of mucking around with dirty oil. I did this when the oil was hot, obviously.

Since these posts a few years ago, has anyone found any drawbacks to using an oil extractor in terms of the effectiveness of an oil change. For example, is it hard to get the tub to the bottom of the oil pan, is there a signifiant amount of oil not extracted.... Seems like a great way to do it, just want to know why everyone does not just do it with an extractor. Thanks.

Funny, I was just going on to search for extractor threads and found this one (which got bumped). It seems that mishar is/was on board with the extractor method, as is Louis...so I'm thinking that may be good enough for me to go the same route. I'm due for my 1st oil change since picking up the A8, *hopefully* plan to get it done this weekend.

I'm tired of crawling under the car, it's not the laying down, it's the engine guard removal. The oil filter is on the top, there's no reason to go under now.
If you're doing it this weekend, report to see how it comes out.
Cheers,
Louis
