Autoweek article on 2016 A6/S6 midlife update; I think it gives some D5 clues

This article was in today's on line Autoweek feed, discussing the midlife S6/A6 rev. I noticed the 2015 S6 was down again on power to the uprated 2015 4.0T A8, and this answers that and steps it yet more. Meanwhile, the 3.0T becomes incrementally more compelling. Since the C7 is already about a third of a design cycle ahead of the D4, with the update you can speculate about D5 direction though there is no discussion about it.

Pretty comprehensive, early on talking about style language, and later getting at motor/power revisions and some electronics tweaks. The only thing I wondered about some is the reference to no changes to 3.0 TDI, since the next gen. motor has already been discussed and was near roll out in two states of tune.
Seems like a fair guess the relevant items would roll ahead toward the D5. I dabbled with the C7 S6 too in lieu of D4 4.0T, but this gives me the usual answers of just keep smiling and motoring on in the still very nice D3 W12--deferring either the later used buy, or into the D5 cycle. D3 parts and projects here and there and incremental W12 gas are still a small fraction on payments/value of funds on any of these.

MP, You mention the 3.0T becoming increasingly more compelling, and I agree. I faced a psychological barrier to the base engine in 2011 when I ordered a base 997, and I have absolutely no regrets on that decision, but it was indeed a major reorientation. So I had 345 hp as opposed to 380 hp. With the savings I was able to upgrade a few things, including sports exhaust, and I didn't have to sell my 1985 911.
I'm still not ready to part with my D3, but the path to a D5 is looking a little clearer. Mike
