4-5 years ave, especially in cold places. Audis do a bit better when they live more protected like in trunk, and/or car garaged. If truly 8 years old (not already changed once), you are on borrowed time. My CA car Audi battery got 7-8 years total when it died very quickly.

Samo, some of the cars have a battery meter in the MMI. That will provide an indication of the battery's health.

I don't think display is of much value diagnostically.

My rule of thumb is simple. Second time battery lets me down w/in a month or two for unexplained reasons, it summarily gets replaced. Not worth breaking down and waiting for AAA at some inopportune moment, bad weather whatever. And every time I ignore my own rule, battery invariably completely craps out in a parking lot somewhere in the next month or two even after charging it up. Explainable reasons for battery issues include basic stupidity/absentmindedness (leaving lights on, etc.), kids playing w/ car, too much VCDS work with ignition on, etc. Any slow cranking incident is same as a let down on my scorecard; just lucky it starts if already down on charge to slow crank.

I have found the meter to be useless. It's always at 100%.

I watched my meter go from 100% down to 30% or so over the past year. I noticed a decline as the car hit 3 yrs old. Regardless of what I did with the battery charger, it never would increase the reading and I assumed the battery was getting weak. There are a couple of screens you can read with VCDS to pick up more in-depth info about your battery. The battery can also be load tested to get another indication.

I replaced the battery at this point. I also noticed with a full AUTO SCAN that the BEM system had kicked in once but it wasn't anything I had noticed while driving, no messages from the car.

These cars have high demands in terms of the battery's output.

My 2004 was trashing out a battery every year. I upgraded to an AGM type battery last time I needed a new battery and have had no low voltage events so far (only 6 months)

Please what is the model of AGM battery you got? I may be in for the same trouble soon. Everytime I leave my car for a month or so, I come to dead battery needing to be jump started. Thanks
