You can remove the upper rear control arm bolts without completely removing the air strut assembly. Under the hood loosen the three large bolts on top of the shock tower that hold the upper control arm / strut mount in place. Inside the fender well insert a pry bar between the top of the shock tower and the upper control arm / strut mount. With some dexterity and not much force you can lower the upper control arm / strut mount enough to get the rear bolts in and out. The amount you loosened the 3 bolts will determine how much you can lower the upper control arm / strut mount. Here's a picture of the pry bar I used:



It's a Craftsman No. 4740 (not sure if it's still available) and it's 10" long. The ends are 3/4" wide.

If you want to cut and grind on something, get a job at Orange County Choppers. They will let you work with unusually large hammers too!

took it for a ride, wow what a difference. The steering wheel left/right "hop" when hitting tar strips/bumps on the highway is completely eliminated.

I'm thinking this might be a 40-50k solution at which time I'll probably just replace the whole arm(s). For less than $100, I'm happy so far.
