Bought another D3 - Some faults to fix with VCDS report :)
Dear All,
I trust you are COVID free and enjoying the rain :\
Last night I collected a very lovely LWB 2008 D3 3.0 - and as expected, I note some issues below. Any advice appreciated on any of the faults - and I'll carry on researching as much as I can:
1. Bank 2 swirl flap motor, not moving under VCDS output tests - I shall possibly open it and check the gear assembly before going any further with this.
2. HVAC. AC not working, although output tests on N280 do activate the compressor - and the low side pipe is getting cold. So mechanically ok. Any thoughts as to why HVAC is not asking for the AC? It's not on "econ". I did think temperature probes. The only bad one is in the rear footwell. Currently reporting 0C. Could it be that inhibiting the AC? Also theres rear HVAC footwell issues in general.
3. Passenger seat electrics. It was immobile, until I reached under the seat and plugged it in. Lucky or what!! It all works, aside from memory / symmetry etc, and VCDS (as you can see) reports the module "cannot be reached". This fault I'm not concerned about, but would happily try things.
4. Keyless antenna issues as reported below. Keyless not working. If anyone knows where to check? Again not concerned - but the report allows someone enough detail to advise, it would be appreciated.
5. Parking brake pads - can manage that
6. Level control. No symptoms - however am I right in thinking it has a leak thats stressing the compressor? 2 faults logged there that could be linked I guess.
7. Radio antenna - seems to work, I bet that's a headlining down job One day maybe!

Other than these annoyances (which one expects with a 12 year old D3) - the car runs great, and is a different animal to the 55 plate D3 it replaced.

I trust you are COVID free and enjoying the rain :\
Last night I collected a very lovely LWB 2008 D3 3.0 - and as expected, I note some issues below. Any advice appreciated on any of the faults - and I'll carry on researching as much as I can:
1. Bank 2 swirl flap motor, not moving under VCDS output tests - I shall possibly open it and check the gear assembly before going any further with this.
2. HVAC. AC not working, although output tests on N280 do activate the compressor - and the low side pipe is getting cold. So mechanically ok. Any thoughts as to why HVAC is not asking for the AC? It's not on "econ". I did think temperature probes. The only bad one is in the rear footwell. Currently reporting 0C. Could it be that inhibiting the AC? Also theres rear HVAC footwell issues in general.
3. Passenger seat electrics. It was immobile, until I reached under the seat and plugged it in. Lucky or what!! It all works, aside from memory / symmetry etc, and VCDS (as you can see) reports the module "cannot be reached". This fault I'm not concerned about, but would happily try things.
4. Keyless antenna issues as reported below. Keyless not working. If anyone knows where to check? Again not concerned - but the report allows someone enough detail to advise, it would be appreciated.
5. Parking brake pads - can manage that
6. Level control. No symptoms - however am I right in thinking it has a leak thats stressing the compressor? 2 faults logged there that could be linked I guess.
7. Radio antenna - seems to work, I bet that's a headlining down job
One day maybe!---
Other than these annoyances (which one expects with a 12 year old D3) - the car runs great, and is a different animal to the 55 plate D3 it replaced.

Most faults logged are historic, so really just noise. Look at the dates/times.
Do a full reset and then drive the car for a while to get a log of current faults.

The date/time was also wrong, although I corrected that.

I wouldn't take the vcds report religiously unless you like to replace good parts. All A8 components are in a controlled system and one failed all will show up on VCDS, make sure to understand and verify the defective parts before replacing them.

I have resolved the inlet motor issue (hopefully), and hoping it stays fixed. I'll buy 2 glowplugs.
My priorities now are only really:
1. The aircon - and why it doesn't function (along with the rear footwell heaters, both seem dead). compressor works under output tests, and low side pipes get cold. No errors on VCDS to help steer me.
2. Passenger seat module (cannot be reached)

The AC is easy and simple. Don't monkey with the VCDS and break it by changing the preset program. Check out my posts on how I fixed my AC in the signature. My simple fix without all detective work turned out the G65 and a full vacuum and recharged to the specs. It's still working perfectly after many years.

My only concern is that my ECON setting doesn't keep reverting to "on" - and my AC does seem to work using the output tests. Could it still be the G65? As I could be risking a lot of work stripping down the front end if that's not the issue.
Any thoughts welcomed. Thanks again.

Be careful when taking to the shop, they may base on the VCDS printouts and start shotgunning parts on your expense.
If it doesn't get on the econ mode then that's a new one to me. Get your self a manifold, a vacuum and some Freon, start evacuation, test for leaks, then recharge, it only takes 20oz and 2hr of work. I never believe the system just dies overnight.
