So strangely, after I did my oil change (which included disconnecting the airbox/etc) I also unplugged the pigtail for the sensors as described, cleared any lingering codes, and my CEL has been gone for some 2000+ miles. So essentially so far so good, and *thankfully* I didn't/haven't had to replace the O2 sensor (knock on wood).

I have been having intermittent O2 faults with B2 S1 being the majority of them. I disconnected the connectors and applied electrically conductive grease. Currently waiting for them to reoccur. 2006 A8 @ 180K.

Please keep me/us posted...though my '06 A8 had 79K on it when this happened back in November, as mentioned it's been over 2000 miles and 4+ months and so far so good.

Ok...... Been a while and still fighting B1 and B2 S1. After receiving multiple miss fires, I did more digging. Currently replacing the injector O-rings that seal the intake manifold. Looks as though this may have been the problem. Will report back...............

So, a quick search brought this up. No CEL yet but last weekend the D3 was acting up (engine fluttered after cranking/starting), a VCDS scan returned these errors for Bank 1 Sensor 1.
By the way, this was 30 mins after I left my local Audi service dept for yearly emissions/ inspection sticker - how fortuitous?! After making it back to the shop, the Tech said he cleared the codes and that I would be replacing all 4 O2 sensors and maybe the HPF pump; SA quoted ~2200+. (I didn't bother to ask if they don't normally scan a vehicle during inspection.)
Haven't driven it much since, but I will be checking the colored connector (front passenger side) today; hopefully unplugging/plugging it back in and clearing codes might suffice.
Code:

You should be looking at the (USA) passenger side forward sensor. Sure, try the connector first. After that, replace sensor since it is clear there is an electrical problem there. And if still no joy, then suspect car side connector terminals and related wiring close in to connector area.
