Cold Feet On Cold Mornings

I have a 08 S8, and came out of an 05 A8L, and notice that the heat distribution to the footwells isn't as strong as my old car. The blower does, however, go to max if I have the temperature set above 72 degrees, and the "auto" setting.

I live in the warmer SF Bay Area. Car is a 2006 W12; if anything w/ bigger total cooling system and block to deal w/ you might expect it to warm more slowly. Don't see it on cold nights or in mountains though either. Old cast iron American blocks were much slower to warm than either the 6.0 or the 4.2 in my C5 (both of which seem similar heating wise);
Question/idea 1: Try going into Econ mode via the MMI as long as your windows don't fog. Then you aren't fighting the A/C compressor too that is pumping refrigerant somewhere the whole time (except below the cold shut off safety setting). I try to do that anyway to not waste gas when it isn't needed.
Idea 2: Redirect the rear air flow (assuming you have the rear HVAC controls) toward the floor with the settings (can also be done off the front MMI via the front HVAC controls), at least on the driver's side. The floor ducting toward the rear has built in electric auxiliary heaters in line w/ the air flow to give it a boost. That would get the floor warmer in general, and the floor ducting empties close to mid floor front to back anyway.
If you have a VAG COM, you might also scan the HVAC system to be sure one of the vent doors/motors isn't hanging up.
