This board will probably say go for an A8 and the RS6 board will say get one of those.
The A8L has the newer technology, which was one big reason why I choose it. If you have the patience, maybe you could wait for the best of both worlds and wait for the S8 (whenever that'll come out).
Plus we have the A8 guru (PaulW) near our corner, so the support factor is on the A8's side ;-)

there were a couple obvious RS6 devotees. One fellow thought any performance car 2nd hand was a bad idea. I think the RS6 idea is just a pipe dream that could become a nightmare. The one time I ever had a 2nd hand car (saab 900 spg) I regretted it and swore I'd never do it again. But its a nice car. A8 is smarter. There's always the S4, however. How can I be looking at the S4 Avant and an A8? very different but i ;love them both. If I ask this question on the S4 board I'll be singed. Reprobates... amusing, no doubt, but reprobates nonetheless.

how would you describe the difference between the two, and has the RS6 been reliable and easy as an every day car, or is it a finnicky race car?
