I did my vag-com test and I kind of wish I didn't


The engine one is fine. I had the dealer look at it and said there was no problem even though I get a fault code. I'm trying to figure out what to do next. I have the bentley dvd so if this stuff is easy-moderate difficulty I'll undertake the task of doing it. However, I'm having problems getting into modules to do vag com mods as well. I tried to get into 46 convenience and it said no response; like a couple others.


I also just updated my firmware because I lost a lot of options about 3 weeks ago (i.e. no suspension screen (ability to change suspension was gone) and some others). Now, I'm left with about 5 options. I took a pic to show what I mean:

hey buddy. Just had a very quick look through, and saw some voltage issues (like mine did). Have you had flat battery, or replaced your battery? If so, maybe your battery module needs recoding. That process is on one of the threads on here. Someone said the car shuts down non-essential functions with low voltage. Don't know about that, but look up 'hidden menu' on here, and you may find you can go into the hidden menu on the MMI and re-initiate some of the functions on the 'CAR' menu.
Hopefully this helps, but some of the experts on here can put you straight for sure.

Yeah, my car has been having some battery issues. It's been going down to the last bar before empty every now and then but when I drive it around for a bit it goes to 100%. It was replaced in, I wanna say, June but I forget to be honest. The "car" menu had all options up until a couple weeks ago and then they disappeared one day randomly. No idea why it would suddenly disappear but I'll check into both threads though. Thanks for the reply and help.

Looks like a dead battery or charging regulator. I would save those faulty codes and erase them. Looks like most of them won't come back. It is easier to deal just with the current ones. Post them.

Okay, I'll erase them. I erased a couple when I was messing around with it just now while reading up on the errors on ross-tech. I also finally got into the hidden menu and re-enabled the air suspension and a couple others that went missing as well as disabled seat belt chime, tpms and enabled window lowering/raising via key fob.


Is the language in the hidden menu supposed to be non-English? I could barely read the menus but I was just browsing until I stumbled upon things I could read.

I don't want to open a new thread but after I enabled window opening/closing via key fob and the unlock/lock buttons when I tried to open they all opened but when I tried to close, the back left would raise 3/4 and then lower back down while the rest closed. I also went into the car and tried to raise the window and it would go 3/4 up and then lower. Is there something wrong in the coding I used or is there something wrong with left rear door electronics. I know it's a specific question so a guess would be of benefit to me as I don't even know where to start looking.


I followed instructions (found on this site):

"A slightly more detailed procedure for others: as listed in the earlier post: go to controller 46> Adaptation>function 10 Channel 61. Enter the number of your desired bells & whistles you want to activate. I enabled all of them so the number is 1023. Save, close controller.

Then, same controller (46) but go to > Coding 07 > My original setting was 65054. I added the 64 which enables the remote control (key fob) "Do It/save"

Close controller.

All done and good to go!
To clarify; New setting is 65118 in this section (coding 07)"

I was getting a number of fault codes and odd behavior as my battery was nearing the end of its life. I could erase codes, but many of them would come back, sometimes along with new (mystifying) codes. Many were the same as in your Log. This all stopped after replacing the battery and coding it properly.

These cars are so dependent on the electrical system that I wouldn't dismiss something as seemingly simple as a (nearly) dead, or incorrectly coded battery.

You indicated the battery was replaced recently, so I would suspect it may not have been correctly coded. If it wasn't coded correctly, the car will not know what the charge range is (minimum and maximum). So, I would get the coding done to rule that out. Ross-Tech has a step-by-step on the process.

If the battery is getting old (this is what I would assume,given the codes in the Log), replace it and get it properly coded. As I said, I recently did this and it solved a lot of gremlins for me.

There is some debate on this forum regarding the necessity of coding a replacement battery. I won't reignite that argument, but I will say that you must have a known good "starting point" from which to base your diagnostic procedures, or else those diagnostics can get very frustrating, and lead you nowhere. Your log points to a very basic battery issue. Once that is ruled out, you can continue with some confidence.

Like I said, I'm no expert, but agreed, swapping the battery and NOT coding it didn't cure some of mine, but coding it did. Jakematic was awesome at me helping with mine. I coded the battery in before when I was doing some other mods. I'll erase the codes tomorrow and see if they come back. If they don't, that was the problem. If not, then I'll buy a new battery and start from there. Going to have to be awhile as I leave for vacation tomorrow for 2 weeks.
