Default Different Center Display

I recently purchased a 2008 A8 that has keyless start/entry, cold weather package and just about every option I can think of. Anyway, I noticed that the center display on my wife A8 is not rectangular but follows the curves between the speedo and tach. It displays the same info but of all '04 and '05 A8's I have seen few have this type of center display. Also her keyless start has a silver start button in the middle of the larger black button other vehicles like hers has. It doesn't bother me, just very unusual.

I believe the larger display is indicative of having the adaptive cruise control. I don't believe this option was available on the 04's which is why you don't see it.

I was just about to post this same question....

do you know if its standard on the 2007 and up and if it came on the 2006 model?

I'm in the process of buying and I really like this feature..

My understanding is that the larger display was associated with an option in earlier model years - it might have been adaptive cruise - but then became standard by some point. I know my 2004 had the square display and my 2008 has the wider display, so I know the change occurred between sometime 05-08.

Yes on earlier cars at least it's comes with the ACC option but as mentioned I think it was made standard later on. Possibly with the 2008 facelift.

An easier way to detect the option when just browsing ads is to check just below the grille. If there's a square "missing" in the chrome strips, the car has the ACC. Like the one in the linkie:

The display change/update occurred in the 2007 for US model D3's. Adaptive Cruise models had it earlier as previously mentioned.

Sorry I was wrong in my first post, just a mistake really, the A8 is an '05 not an '08. No idea why I said that, maybe a miss type.

Also, it does have adaptive cruise control. Although I am having trouble with it. It cuts out a lot with a "ACC Blocked" warning and then it cuts out. My local dealer can't seem to replicate it yet I can't seem to get it to work for more than a couple miles. Any thoughts?
