Default Don't let tire installer attempt to "reset" the TPMS wheel transponders!

Installer did that to mine - net result is a $1000 bill for diagnosis, new sensors, installation and balancing.
The bill has been passed to the installer who was none too happy. But then, my mood isn't great either.
Installers have a tool they use to "reset" sensors and they have no idea what the tool does, why they use it or the damage it can cause.
You were warned!

Default Sensors are $400 - $500 TOPS

Assuming the valve stems could be reused the TPMS are well under $100.00 each at TireRack. Labor rate at your dealership must be huge.

I was quoted $170 each at my dealer one year ago.

Default Sensors are $145 a piece from Audi, labor was in the $3-400 range ...

a half day of the A8 tech trying to find out what the installer had done. Add balancing and sales tax and - voila! $1001 in a heartbeat.
Yes a sensor from Tire Rack is from Beru and yes it is the same but I have not seen an Audi dealer go and buy stuff like this from Tire Rack and not knowing what the installer had done to my vehicle I was not about to speculate by dropping $500 on sensors I may not have needed.
Finally, yes, it is quite a mark up by Audi isn't it. What else would we expect!

FYI, my VW TPMS sensors have the 4 rings stamped on them too, however they are 2004-2005 fitments. I heard the 2006 and up are different, perhaps accounting for the higher price.

Default I don't think they changed. Its a long story but the wheels and sensors were ..

originally fitted to my 05 A8 replacing the original OEM wheels.
I moved them onto the 06 8L without problem and then to the 07 S8, again without a problem until a dipstick at the tire installer decided to zap them.
I saw the new sensors before Audi installed them - same part number (Beru designation not Audi) - so maybe the change, if it happened, was a VW thing.
