Hello to everyone.New here. I'm tired of my E500 and just shopping around. Looks like this is the best D3 forum. I've already learned quite a bit from you all. Question is the benefit of security glass to quiet factor in the cabin. I had a 2000 S430 and security glass was standard. That car was dead quiet. Any one out there have this option or could you comment an how it adds to cabin noise?

I don't know if it has the same film as the D2 A8's, but if it does, you won't get much cell phone reception......so get an 05 with Bluetooth!
I can tell you that you will find the A8 with either set up a very quiet car.

Are you suggesting bluetooth so I can boost with internal antenna or is there another reason? By the way I like your kit. I don't like any of the factory kits available so HB-30 or one of those looks good. I'm not sure I'll go new or used yet. 04' prices are sliding down a considerable amount.

Typically the "security" glass option offered as a factory upgrade consists of using a 3 layer glass/PVB/glass construction which is the same as the front windshield but thinner overall. PVB is the acronym for polyvinyl butyral which is a very soft shock-aborbing polymer used in windshields and architectural glass for shock absorption. It really should reduce cell phone reception vs a vehicle with regular single pane glass for the side windows. Some film and metallizing technology used in heated windshields can be a real block to cell phone signals but Audi/VW don't use this type of technology to my knowledge. I suspect the D2 security glass option was also glass/PVB/glass; if this did make a difference for cell reception, it will do the same in the D3. I haven't seen it with my Treo 600 in my D3.
