Engine noise. Injector?
Hi.
My 2005 3.0 tdi was in for a service at the local VW/Audi independent specialist. The mechanic highlighted a noise from the engine. The noise has been present since I bought the car and I didn't realise it was something wrong.
It is a sort of psst, psst, psst, psst, psst noise (if that makes any sense). It comes form the offside end of the engine bay (UK car). I'm told it is from a loose or leaking injector. I have been quoted £200-£300 pounds to repair it if the problem is the copper washer around the injector. He also said that if it has been like that for a long time then the aluminium on the head may have a channel scorched in it that would necessitate a new head. This would not be clear until they strip it down and would obviously be very costly.
Does this sound right? Has anyone else come across this problem?
Many thanks in advance.

No Diesels on this side of the ocean, but everything you said sounds logical. I would only try to save that head if there is a channel under the seal. May be some fine grinding and a ticker seal?

Thanks Mishar.
The work has been done. One injector was leaking and was difficult to remove. All three in that bank have had new seals. A small amount of grinding was required.
It wasn't cheap. £360. £1 = $1.64. Could have been a lot worse if a new head had been required.
