First spy shots of D4 - A7 and A8 and some data ...

It's not that Audi doesn't want the big motors, it's just that they will be de facto verboten
no way they are going to pass much higher fuel economy and CO2 emissions with any real sales of big motors. Figure blown or turbo'ed 6's are likely as standard fare in bigger cars like this, with a high end V8 option, and a turbo'ed or blown V8 as about as big as it gets. And figure 4.2 could head south again to 4.0 or less even. No way around it if you have to comply with newer regs; already very apparent w/ the Euro trends and intro's. They can do it in a low volume Bentley and average it enough against lots of small cars in the VW group, plus as V10's and V- and W12's disappear Bentley can have better real drivetrain differentiation than they do now.

I like where they are going.I trust that audi will make the 8 look stunning.I think the seven is also going to get audi good reviews.

worst design I've seen yet from Audi - I recognize that this is just a prototype, but
this is really ugly. It looks like they are trying to follow the idrive config and porsche's way too many buttons approach. Ergo wise it looks like a much further reach for the controls that are currently within easy reach.

That is incorrect
Given the trend of going green (at least somewhat), these will be the engine offerings for the following cars on the D4 platform: A7/S7/RS 7 and A8/A8L/S8:
DOHC four valves per cylinder regularly aspirated gasoline FSI engines with valve-lift for the A7, A8 and A8L: 24v 2.8L V6 212 PS, 280 nm and 7,200 RPM redline, 24v 3.2L V6 261 PS, 330 nm and 7,200 RPM redline and 32v 4.2L V8 375 PS, 450 nm and 7,300 or 7,500 RPM redline.
DOHC four valves per cylinder supercharged (NOT twin turbocharged) gasoline TFSI engine with or without valve-lift for the A7, A8 and A8L: 24V 3L V6 333 PS, 440 nm and 7,000 or 7,200 RPM redline.
DOHC four valves per cylinder supercharged (NOT twin turbocharged) gasoline TFSI engine with or without valve-lift for the S7, A8 and A8L: 32V 4L V8 474 PS, 570 nm and 7,300 or 7,500 RPM redline.
DOHC four valves per cylinder supercharged (NOT twin turbocharged) gasoline TFSI engine with or without valve-lift for the RS 7 and S8: 32V 4.2L V8 572 PS, 640 nm and 7,300 or 7,500 RPM redline.
DOHC four valves per cylinder twin turbocharged diesel CRI engines with or without valve-lift for the A7, A8 and A8L: 24V 2.7L V6 247 PS, 490 nm and 6,000 or 6,200 RPM redline and 24V 3L V6 296 or 297 PS, 550 nm and 6,000 or 6,200 RPM redline.
DOHC four valves per cylinder twin turbocharged diesel CRI engine with or without valve-lift for the S7, A8 and A8L: 32V 4L V8 424 PS, 730 nm and 6,300 or 6,500 RPM redline.
DOHC four valves per cylinder twin turbocharged diesel CRI engine with or without valve-lift for the RS 7 and S8: 32V 4.2L V8 523 PS, 800 nm and 6,300 or 6,500 RPM redline.

Remove the masking from the rear passenger windows and the fake aluminum trim piece
and that car is almost identical on the exterior as a D3. It will be a nice successor vehicle.
The exterior lighting is doctored up by masking as well.
I don't know about the MMI control placement though. I'll have to see the interior in person before I knock it.
My only beef with the current MMI **** is that if you use the cupholder the **** is blocked so I have to get at it from the side. Remember, my cup holder insert was missing on my used vehicle purchase, I had to spend $161.00 plus tax so I use mine every day I drive the car.
No MMI spillage accidents by me so far. However, a passenger with a pail sized cup of iced tea once let it tip on hard braking. A few drops caused no damage. It was unsweetened so that helped too.
I have not seen an Audi interior that I didn't like. Even my 1981 4000 5+5 was way nicer than the interior of same generation VW Rabbit/Golf & Scirocco models.
My next Audi will probably be an A5 or S5 to replace my Beetle as my car to drive by myself or only with my wife. I'll keep my '04 A8L until it goes to a donor motors place at 300-350k miles which I estimate will be around the years 2024-2025.
And I hit my estimated year which I said I would donate my 1987 5000CSQ within a year and that car had a steel body.
