I'm guessing a sunroof drain is clogged or something? Anyone have an idea what causes this?

We've got the same in our 2006 A6, CW. It's not the sunroof drains in our car. I believe the water is flowing thru the firewall due to plugged drains (leafs, debris, etc.).

What other drains are there?

There are drains in the firewall area.

FWIW, there are lot of places a car can leak water.

I would certainly eliminate the S/R drains before moving on to more heroic stuff

Default Sunroof drains, yes...

But I ask myself on lots of these posts, how does this happen to folks in general? Seems to me unless the roof is left open to collect junk in the drains there shouldn't be anything in them to start with. Thus, not worth it for the warm weather venting--if that is what it is--if a tree or any other debris dropper is literally within sight. I suppose the lower drain ends could be sticking shut or bugs crawling in or something lower probability.

If you have a sunroof drain mess, also look at plenum area under the covers. That area can easily collect leaves no matter what you do. It needs to be cleaned/blown out periodically-annually at a minimum. Engine computers (and other stuff) are in there so you do not want it turning into an internal holding tank of water. Fortunately the ECU(s) are mounted fairly high, and it also takes a good amount of water to get up to the level where the HVAC filter is that then can get more easily into the inside of the car. But also look to be sure that HVAC filter cover is in place--right in the center of the plenum area right under the back edge of the hood.

Yeah, that's what I found on our car, sunroof area was spotless. There was nothing to clean up.

I took a look and the sunroof area is perfect. Gonna have to mess around under the hood. I suspect I might have a bunch of leaves there causing my issues.

Hey guys,

are these the drains that y'all suspect are clogged up on his car? They were totally jammed on mine. I don't

understand how this results in water inside the car even if they are jammed up

closeup of one of the stuffed drains

a view of both drains jammed up. this is a view only available because the motor is removed

Where do those drains originate from, and is there any way to clear them easily?
