We have a 2006 Audi A8L with Pirelli P6 tires in which are almost bald in the rears after 24,000 miles while the front 2 tires still have almost another 15 thousand or more to go. Is there something wrong with the 4 wheel drive alignment?? Or are these tires bad?? We had another A8L 2006 before this one which gave almost 48,000 miles on all 4 tires!
So, should we stick with Pirelli P6s and get new sets and do a 4 wheel drive alignment to check out the back wheels?
or
Should we get another set of tires that you can recommend for all season that will be superior to pirelli p6s and do a 4 wheel alignment?
Please give me your feedback of good tires and why.
Thank you!

Audi does not rotate the tires at all. They say that it is not necessary on the A8s due to 4wd which I find ridiculous. They only rotate the tires at the 5,000 free service. I have payed for several subsequent servicing and I have never knew that. I wonder if they stop rotating after the 50,000 free maintenance was killed since my first 2006 Audi A8L had this free maintenance and I think they rotated it then since I got 49,000 miles out of them all.
OR that my current Audi has a bad rear wheels alignment.

Pick up a couple jacks from sears. One for the front, one for the rear. You can do each side in less than 10 minutes. Get a torque wrench from there as well. You'll be out the door for less than 150 and it will save you some serious $$$ in the long run.

True. Or take it to a discount tire store.
So,
anyone, what good tires though? If pirellis are good, then I will stick with them but what about michelins and yokos?

The fronts will always take a beating since they are cutting the turn and the rear follows.
I would let Audi know that you now need to replace your tires.
Is there a circumferential difference between rolling circums that Audi does not want you to go over. Could possibly create unneeded load on the Quattro.
Good luck.
Check out tires.com and their feedback for various tires as well as tirerack.com.

But in my case, the fronts took much less beating than than the 2 rear tires. I had another 2006 A8L with 48,000 miles on the same pirellis with no bad uneven wear from rear compared to front even though dealer said they never rotated my wheels for me. I think I will get new sets and do a 4wd alignment since the rear wheels may a bit out of spec.

I put the BFG's on my girlfriend's Saab 9-3 and they are VASTLY superior to the Pirelli P Zero Nero A/S (when new) that they replaced - better grip, quieter, etc.
Do some research on The Tire Rack and look at the user ratings for whatever tires are available in your size.
For the Saab, the BFG's were only bested (in ratings numbers) by the top of the line A/S Yokohama ADVAN S4.
That was about 6 months ago, there may be new tires out now, and other options for your size, so do your research there, and also check out 'reviews' by people with that tire on your car, or other Audis/BMW/etc

Just replaced the Dunlops that came on my '06 sport SWB with Michelin Pilot Sport A/S. The Dunlops had a few more miles on them but had developed horrible noise and vibration issues. The Michelins seem fine so far. Figured I didn't need super performance tires again and the wear rating is much better with the Michelins. It's not like I'm going to autocross the thing!!
