Default Hardwiring passport radar on 04 Audi a8

Hi all.
I know there is DIY for hard wiring on a4 but I am really new to this and do not want to mess up wiring system.
Anyone have DIY for a8. I need to know which fuse I have to tap. I got radar, Smartcord , and fuse circuit .

Thanks

Funny you say this. I just had this done two days ago. I paid someone to do it, quite expensive actually; $85. He did a absolutely phenomenal job though. I had it placed right above the left side of the rear-view mirror with the wire running all the way left to the a column, behind the airbags and into the fuse box. Then I had the smartcord button wired underneath the steering column and being level with the heating controls on that crease in between the center console and the steering column. Right to the right of the ignition. Not a single wire is showing, and with the purchase of new suction cups the radar detector is not seen outside of the vehicle and performs very well. Took about an hour and a half.

Thanks for the reply. I think professional install is good but I like to know and learn stuff.
I didn't think about airbags .

I was wounding if mounting that high is good for rear detecting since there is a sensor on top of all the detectors.
Also Smartcord comes with fuse? Or I have to have fuse circuit?

Thanks

It is good for rear detecting as the radar band still easily hits the rear detector. Supposedly having it mounted high is better for long-range distance as well. Anyone with any sense that uses a escort or a V1 mounts it up high. 1, for use, and 2. for security. You don't want a radar detector hardwired in plain sight for thieves or police, this way you never have to take it down and your dashboard is clean and clear

its very easy to do. Buy on ebay escort hardwire kit, I think its $10-15. Connect to a fuse, like garage opener one and thats it

The Smartcord controls the detector functions, BASARAB. Not an ebay escort hardwire kit.

The airbag wires are all yellow; yellow auto wires are never to be fut wit.

(insert popcorn-munching smilie here)
Take pics please, I need to do this soon. At the least I need to find a 12V+ switched source up where Brozee has his detector mounted.

I've done this on VW's before, but scared to do it to my A8. The multiple fuse panels and masses of wire intimidate me. My passport coiled wire does just fine hanging to the right of the MMI screen.

But...if someone wants to post some pics showing a successful MOD, I know I'll give it a shot.

I guess you could hang the thing upside down, this way the senors on the top are on the bottom for easier detection. Who knows?!

Maybe not so good for the ones with GPS that transmit via internet the locations of false alarm locations and speed traps though..... Just sayin'. My V1 works fine on a visor clip and the top of it is always covered. No GPS in V1's..... yet.
