Ok to start, I have a 2007 A8L and I have daytime driving lights that I know on other models of the same year are high beam lights. My question is does anyone know if the daytime bulb socket can be swapped for a high beam bulb socket then the car reprogrammed so they are not always running and actually function as high beams? Please let me know. Thanks

You can program the DRLs to stay off. Go into the MMI, select CAR on the console, select SYSTEMS (bottom left), scroll to EXTERIOR LIGHTING, scroll to DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS, select OFF. Hope this is what you were seeking!

Thanks for the reply. I know that I can turn them completely off but I was hoping to get the high beam function out of it. Since the bulb types are totally different I would still need to change the socket to be able to use a 55w bulb for example like an H7 style bulb.

High beam is incoporated into the bi-xenon.
It is possible to make just about anything, but not practical.
You would obviously need to swap the whole reflector not just the bulb holder, and where would you get one apart from in another headlamp that already has one in, so therefore you may as well just swap the whole headlight rather than dismantle two and botch the bits together.

I think I get what you are after conceptually. Pre- bi-xenon the inner part of an Audi headlight was often the high beam, with a separate bulb. And if you pulled the stalk in and held it, you could actually light both the low and high beams together. That put out more light on high than the pure bi-xenons do by a good margin. I know since my 2000 C5 4.2 has the older (HID) set up like that, though on low beam the D3 puts out better and more controlled light at the margin even w/ refreshed bulbs in the older A6.
But, the beam won't be shaped at all most likely from where the DRL's are now. Audi has no reason to include any of those kinds of optics or distance tuned reflectors in the DRL position; if anything they probably design it for wide directional visibility and thus more scattering. Thus I would expect just an unfocused mess of light, and one likely to further aggravate oncoming drivers at night even at good distance.
