Help needed with w12 grill addition ... (wtf is up w/2006 brochure?)
Hello,
After seeing this picture:

I decided that I really like the w12 grill a lot better than the v8 grill - it has more pronounced horizontal lines, and they are shiny/silver or something. The point is, I like it.
So I went to the dealer and ordered a w12 grill part, and when my car arrives, I will debadge it (since I don't have a w12) and stick it on. Easy.
The problem is, I just got the new 2006 a8 brochure, and if you look at the very first two pictures in the brochure, you will see that:
a: they are w12s (it seems)
b: they have v8 grills
c: they are photoshopped v8s - in fact, one of them is _this identical picture_ :

but now (magically) with w12 badges on it.
On the other hand, the w12 on p.39 has the w12 grill, with four horizontal slats on the upper half, instead of five.
So ... I guess my main question is, what am I going to see when I open up the grill they send me?
Are they photoshopping up v8s as w12s because they are lazy, or do they feel empowered to do that now because there is no longer a distinctive w12 grill?
I have to say the new brochure is kind of a joke - in addition to all of the photoshopped "w12s", half of the pics are actually 2005 models, also slightly photoshopped (I know because they are the exact same photos from the 2005 brochure).
Anyway ... will I get the cool grill that I want ?

The difference in grilles is subtle, but there is a difference
I'd say the 3rd pic of the silver car cornering isn't pshopped in chrome trim on the grille, it's pshopped in reflections that you wouldn't get off the fairly matt non-W12 grille.
The W12 grille does have chrome trims embedded in it.
The difference is so subtle that my W12 somehow got a pre-production non-W12 grille fitted duringmanufacture and nobody at Neckarsulm or Ingosdadt noticed until I pointed it out to them. Thankfully the nice chaps at Neckarsulm swapped it out while I had a factory tour.

conclusion: terrible 2006 a8 brochure.
No worries - I ordered the w12 grill, and if that means I get the one with the silver embeddeds on it and four horizontal bars in the top half of the grill instead of five, then I am all set.
