Default How much will this cost? Fire hydrant and bush damage

Passenger airbags deployed even though hydrant was hit on my side and no passenger was in the car. Windshield is toast. Entire car is scratched up from the woods I drove through. There's lots of bent and broken frame pieces on the left front. Should have just hit the deer. Opinions: is this repairable or a total loss?

bugger ! That doesn't look good, sounds like you're ok though, even though your airbag didn't pop.
I'm guessing total loss :-(

As for hitting deer, nah, unless it was Bambi sized it almost certainly would have been worse...

Default Ouch! Weren't you selling this A8 as well?

I remember your name as I was recently looking for an A8 and just last week bought an 05 that looks exactly like yours. If you were selling it, I guess this may make your decisions easier.

Glad to hear you are ok.

Yep, won't be able to sell it now. If they repair it I will just have to keep it I guess.

Seeing that it's a pre facelift D3, IMO it may be better to just total it if there is frame damage.

Hard to tell, I'm not sure what is considered the frame or not...lots of bent pieces up front though

I agree, even just considering diminished value, not to mention everything else.

Default Stroll back and forth around the damaged area

whilst vigorously applying a mash hammer to anything that looks undamaged. And see if you can't detonate your airbag with a couple of swift blows to the front of the passenger side whilst you're at it. That should help getting it written off....

FWIW, very reassuring that if I enthusiastically drive my side of the car into anything quite hard, the lovely leather surfaces of my passenger seat will be protected from usightly damage through impacting the windshield
