How smooth should winter tires be in comparison to all season on highways

I feel that the Bridgestone LM-60 gives a more bumpier ride and transmit more imperfections on highways including smooth blacktop pavements at speeds above 75 mph. They have been road force and balanced fine but I wonder why I feel these things. I feel more road in my seat than when I have my Yokohama Advan S4 tires on during the spring/summer/fall. This is the first time I am using winter tires on the 19 inch rim sports edition wheels. Is it because of the thread pattern? Is it suppose to be smooth at speeds up to 95 or beyond or is it too much to be asking from winter tires as compared to summer or all season? They do great in snow.

Sorry, It was a typo. I meant 85 mph zone for speed for these tires. Are they suppose to be very smooth or more road feedback than the all seasons due to their thread patterns. The Lm60 are performance snow tires.

I think all you have to do is compare the tread patterns to realize that the ride will not be as smooth, especially at higher speed. What you gain in snow traction you have to give up in ride comfort and dry handling. It's a trade off that I'm perfectly happy with given the confidence that the Blizzaks inspire in the snow(I have the LM-60's on both my S8 and my wife's MDX right now). On the bright side, you'll really notice the crisp handling and quiet ride when you put your summer tires back on.

I agree. The Blizzaks are amazing despite having road imperfections coming into the cabin and my seat more at highway speed that varies with the road surfaces and irregularities. My seat doesn't feel solid when on highways like with the all season tires as it shakes a bit.

Since you have the Blizzaks, you should consider getting a performance summer tire once the all-seasons wear out. The all seasons are just a compromise, the worst of both worlds so to speak.

Thats what I am considering. However, the Yokohamas ADvans S4 are so quiet and so smooth and have incredible thread wear that its a great tire to have here in Michigan from Spring to Fall. Summer tires might be better but will compromise traction in colder days here when it comes to early spring and late fall. I do 25k to 27k miles a year of driving with 90% being highway driving so I get all seasons. However, given the Audi has low profile on 19 inch rims, winter are the best for winter on this car with these kind of rims. My other cars are great with all season all round since they have 18 inch rims or 17 inch rims. I have to get my tire/wheel checked at a better place that I found out few months ago that does a better road force balance just to be sure that they are not out of balance.

Hello Gents...
visiting from the C6 forum. Just my two cents here but i think snow tires are designed with firm sidewalls and soft treads as a means of keeping equal amounts of tire in contact with the road when ice and snow are present. Sort of like a runflat is made I think. My 245 40 18 Pirelli Sottozero 240's grip well in all conditions but do transmit the same road bumps that my 265 30 20 Dunlops do.
