It was not your simple crank the nut and collect the oil. It was way harder than the D2. You have to remove the air filter housing and then break the cap with a 24mm. Yes this was the first time and yes it will get easier but much more complicated than the D2.
I don't know how you guys say this is easy.

No air box removal on W12--all underneath and right there. Not sure about an S8.

the 10MM plug below the oil filter to drain the oil captured in the Mann oil filter housing before removing the paper element? And of course, Audi recommends that you always replace the copper washer seal there.
I remember posting about my 1st oil change with the car in December, 2005. First car that I could not find the filter on! The Germans (I'm part German so I can say this without "diversity training") are quite perverse when it comes to service procedures and requirements on many of their cars.
My all-time favorite is with the Oxygen sensors on the D3. One procedure starts as follows:
1. Remove engine.

to look it up and someone said under the air filter? I started taking apart the air filter and said there's nothing under there... Must be the cabin air filter... Nothing under the cabin filter but HVAC. Then out of the blue I recognized the big cap. I thought damn germans where the hell they been learning to place this stuff the swedish and their Saabs. LOL
