2006 A8 4.2 sport
Last year in cold weather below 20* front would loose all air, and then be fine after it warmed up. Mechanic said right strut had slow leak and we replaced it. the left side was done just before I bought the car 2/12 yrs ago, both arnett struts. Car has bin fine since it was done in January and so far this yr we have had some cold days high 20s low 30s but today 8* went to pick up my 88 yr old mother for Thanksgiving dinner and bam yellow car flashing then green then slam to the ground!! It’s obvious the cold is messing something up. Any thoughts???

No problem. So many threads here aboot "rebuilt" and new "Like OEM" air struts that make clunking noises or fail quickly and even out of the box. As expensive as they are, sometimes it makes the most sense to buy the OEM/OES parts.

I just wanted any thoughts about the cold messing with air suspension not a lecture! I was only planning on keeping the car another yr so that big expense of OEM didn’t seem to make sense!!

Everyone assumed that when you got what is the clear answer that it was likely a failed strut, the next logical thing to discuss is what to do about it or maybe what went wrong. No one works for you here and no one is lecturing you, so check the attitude at the door. If you don't want to spend the extra money on a better repair, fine, you now have the pros and cons of doing it the cheap way.

I'd suspect that you are looking at another strut replacement. Did you replace with rebuilt Arnott or new Arnott units? I think the new Arnott struts don't have all the active dampening. I had a rebuilt Arnott on right front and it didn't last more than a year. Now I have had two new Arnott struts on both left and right front as well as a new Arnott compressor and I haven't had any problems. I also haven't noticed any difference in ride as far as the active dampening is concerned. Since the first rebuilt unit, I've installed all units myself. You can try checking for leaks using the soap test mentioned in other threads, but that may not always show a leak. I had luck disconnecting the sway bar and seeing which strut leaked down first. If you have VCDS, it will show the height in mm as well as deviation or you could measure from fender to center of wheel a few times and see which measurements deviate over a set amount of time.

Thanks for the info on the Arnott struts! The driver side was done just before I bought the car and the passenger side was done by my “Audi specialist “ mechanic. I’m not sure if it was a remanufactured or new one but will find out. If it’s the one that was just replaced. It’s under a yr old and should be covered under warranty. I think 🤔 ? my boy has a Cadillac escalade With over 200,000 miles and has never had air ride problems. Just sayin
