Default Impression of 2006 A8L after 500 miles

I finally hit the 500 mile mark and all I can say is FANTASTIC. The ride is very smooth. The amaretto interior is very rich looking. I am still getting accustomed to driving such a big car. I am used to driving a S4 and the CLK500 I have driven for the past 3 years. My mindset is completely different when I am behind the wheel of the A8L versus the S4 I have. I just lean back in the A8 and relax while I'm cruising down the highway. While driving the S4 my driving becomes more spirited. These cars bring out the Jekyll and Hyde in me. The A8L is certainly the best car I have ever had and I hope I will have years of pleasure driving such a fine automobile. I am glad I decided not to get the BMW 750Li. I prefer the understated elegance of the Audi. Although the A8 does not have the explosive feeling the S4 has, it is nice to know that I have the option of driving either car for whenever I am experiencing certain mood swings. The night blue pearl effect with amaretto and alcantara interior is a great color combo.I still have not perfected programming the car with my bluetooth phone as far as voice activation is concerned. I usually just go to phone book and hit dial on the MMI.

Default Great review...

I agree, it is a tremendous car. I am driving a 2005 SWB, to which I moved from a 2003 A8L. I could not believe that they could make a better car than the D2 A8L, but they could and did!

I have had a couple of niggling things (auto trunk not working, radio/amp issues), but nothing that has taken anything away from the driving experience...best car I've owned to date.

By the way, congrats on the colour combo--that must be wonderful to live with! We are lucky individuals indeed, aren't we??

Default It gets better as miles go by, you'll be surprised when you compare to S4

I have driven our W12 hard, using sport mode and the paddle shifters. On roads where I take some of our other fun cars, used to run my old M5 too, the A8 acquitted itself very well.

Second and third gears and hard cornering were great considering size, and it never bottomed or scraped on some of the rougher hill country roads I use. Takes a LOT of work to drift, but did great. Feels much smaller than it is.

Obviously more momentum than the S4, but impressive. Get a few more miles on it, then try it. I watched tire temps figuring they'd heat up as hard as I was going, and they didn't move much at all. Impressive.

Enjoy
