just did 'metal gear' fix to my MMI screen...
#21
I bought a new mechanism and so I can request a quotation for the plastic gears. Jrstokka has some on the eBay but it's too expensive to pay so much money for plastic gears.
As soon as I get a good offer from a german supplier, I will to sell them on ebay. My target is to sell them below 20 EUR.
In my opinion, all offers above 100 USD is exorbitant !!!
The guys who have got these gears will do only money! This is not in our interest !!!
Regards, Eddy

I do not know of a 'how to' article, so I had to figure it out. The thing is put together like some ancient mystical puzzle...you know the metal pieces and the plastic pieces were once separate and were assembled ,so there HAS to be a way to dis-assemble them. But I never could figure out the "key" to solve the puzzle.
So, I did the only thing I could see that would to get the gears out of the mechanism. I used a razor knife to slice off a little nub of plastic that acts as a stop for the arc shaped gear that needs to move past the stop in order to reveal the gears. When I re-assembled the mechanism I used a tiny screw to hold a bit of plastic in place to act as a stop.
If anyone has found another way I would still be interested to know how it was done, just out of curiousity.

I've always wondered how make the screen just stay open- I figure it will break someday from opening and closing so many times. If I move the car 10' into the garage, the damned screen opens up and then closes again right away. I really never close it when I'm driving so I'd just prefer to leave it open all the time... easy "fix" ?
