Default Just got an Audi A8 4.2 Quattro Sport - UK Member (Pics and Spec)

Well 2004 model... but here is my D3 Audi A8 4.2 Quattro.

It is absolutely loaded with every extra on it as well as twin screens fitted in the rear with twin Playstations 2. It is the Sport model so has the 20" wheels and sports suspension.

Mods I want to do:

- Facelift Grille S8

- Brembo Brakes or RS6 Kit

- Remap (Any ideas?)

Goes in next week to CLS Dual Fuel in Durham for BRC LPG conversion.

Enjoy!

Default Hmmmm, never noticed before....

that on those wrong sided steering wheel cars that the gas and brake pedals are not similarly reversed. You learn something every day on AW.

Nice car!

Default Congrats on your Audi A8 4.2 Quattro Sport...

I noticed you have no roof antenna; never seen that configuration before. Looks good except for the S8 badge (you might want to lose the badge or risk being heckled as a poser). Since you are in the UK and your dealer supports them; you might as well get Audi Ceramic disc brakes. Nice wheels!

Search the forum archives about switching to the new Audi nose with genuine parts.

Default Congratulations. I've never seen without the roof antenna either on a UK car or

otherwise. I'm with you on the sports suspension and wheels, I love them (check out my picture poster LOL)

S8 badge has to go...

Didn't see keyless entry/fingerprint start, but can't remember if they were options on the '04 model.

You don't see many Alcantara seats either, make sure you look after them Doc.

Is the RSE factory or aftermarket? If aftermarket you can link it to the MMI screen via the TV tuner AV inputs. I've done it and it is great to watch when waiting to pick up the kids from parties etc. The kids love the RSE, they pop the sun screens up and pretend they are at the cinema.

Good luck with the nose job, and let us know how the LPG conversion goes. I'm averaging about 23MPG, but I only do about 10,000 miles a year so it is not something worth doing in my case.

Click me for new front end

Default Congrats!

I agree with Ringmeister and V8growler n the badge - I'd lose it on the basis that nobody who doesn't know what an S8 is will care, and those that do know what one is will know it's not one!

With 20" wheels on, you should be able to get much bigger brakes on under there. I'd see if the W12 / S8 brakes are any bigger (I suspect they are) or price up the ceramics rather than look at RS 6 brakes - the RS 6 brakes look good, but to be totally honest, the pads are too small for a heavy car and they overheat too easily under those huge 8-piston calipers. The S8 brakes are much better.

Leather/alcantara isn't a common combination, but I prefer it over full leather, as it's cooler in summer (breathes more), is warmer in winter and is pretty much as easy to keep clean as leather.

I notice you've got the GSM phone unit (no longer available on new cars) in there. That can be swapped for a new GSM phone kit what uses your mobile; either a cradle, or the newer Bluetooth kit with SIM Access Profile that uses your phone's SIM data via Bluetooth to log into the network. You might also be interested in adding an iPod interface or any other MMI features you're missing. If so, head on over to tyresmoke.net and check out the electronics forum and ask for a guy called "Craigyb", he's in Manchester and does good quality retrofit work.

Cheers everyone! I know what you mean about the S8 badge... But it has had that from new as it was spec'd like that from factory so it is a slight crime to remove in my eyes? But we will see!

The aerials I think are built into the rear windscreen for radio and TV and not sure on the GPS?

Yeah I was going to go for a diesel but when this spec came up with the alcantara etc I had to get it. Hence the LPG conversion!

The rear headrests I think are aftermarket... How would I tell? It is a bloomin' good installation!

Already been intouch with CraigyB, TVFree is lined up cheers Brit!

THanks for the comments guys!

Anyone any tuning tips for this engine?

Default I thought about the diesel, but a bit too expensive to buy still, so the gain

in fuel costs was more than outweighed.

The factory RSE is fully integrated into the MMI with a video interface. Like I say though, you can link your DVD player to your MMI screen (if it isn't already) really easily through one of the two AV inputs on the TV tuner.

Tuning the V8 is not really worthwhile by chipping, as its not got a turbo to feed. You can only gain about 20BHP. You could always fit a supercharger or turbos, but then you are talking real money.

CraigB will also do you a digital/analogue TV upgrade and an AMI too, worth thinking about.

Have fun in your new ride Doc.

Default Whatever you do, don't go on the 'Auto Detailing Forum' you'll spend a

fortune on washes, mitts, applicators, MF towels, clay, QD, polishes, wax etc and spend every other day keeping your new A8 in perfect as new order.... or is that just me? LOL
