I have seen the future.
Today I had demonstrated at work a 3D printer at the uni where I work.
This would be perfect for making a new cogwheel.
It makes anything you can design into a plastic object by laying layers of resin like an inkjet. It made a thimble sized jar with a design on it and a screw cap with threads that fitted perfectly. Sadly we are not likely to buy one until September, if at all, as they are £20,000+
If you could find somewhere that has one, they could churn them out.

Maybe I could send a broken one(when it happens to me) to someone at Gleason and get a brass "sample". Since the cuts are straight (non-hypoid), it is a pretty simple gear.

How does it work if all you have as a sample is the broken gear? That is a good price as it was over five times that amount in the US five or six years ago.

I doubt they would be strong enough. We use them as prototypes for a mold then use a resin or alloy cast.
I thouight about that but then just bought the steel ones from Misha.

It seems to me like these gears should be MUCH cheaper than what they sell for on eBay from that current seller right? I am a top rated seller on eBay (hdblu-raydvd) and I would love to work with someone to sell these gears for a lot cheaper. $99 plus shipping for two small pieces of plastic?? Seems crazy to me
