It takes couple of hours to take it out and put it back. Replacing gear is a fairly easy but requires patience. Could take an hour or two depending on skills.

I wouldn't recommend preventive change.

Misha unfortunately is no longer with us. He passed away several years ago. I bought one of his sets when mine started acting up. You'll need to check around for other sources.
