after installing video interface and dension gateway 500 all was working fine then the after a restart mmi went out and would not go down. Now all it does is click and sometimes the boot screen will come up but i can hear i clicking in the trunk then it'll stop. It there a reset for the mmi or the bose system.

Likely the fibre ring is 'broken' somewhere or a fuse.

VCDS (VAG-COM) will help diagnose.

Take a look here https://www.audiworld.com/forums/sho...licking&page=3

the clicking seems to be coming from the subwoofer area in the trunk

Default Yes, scan it...

Agreed w/ jakematic you should scan it w/ VAG COM. Nearest MMI item I can think of that should be on the optical ring given the noise source you mention would be the Nav drive box, accessible from the trunk of course. But VAG COM should tell you a lot more.

Absolutely.

As per my previous thread reference was the exact issue.

OK didn't have a vag com so i decided to check all the fuses by pulling them and inspecting them now brake light flashes no emergency brake, headlight aim light on, abs code in vag com lite and power steering is harder than normal. can checking fuses cause all of this? thanks

Possibly - there is a LOT going on with all the systems in these vehicles.
Most likely all DTC's can be cleared and the errors will go away.

This is the type of tester I use to check them in place.
It is ~$10 at any auto supply store:

Edit: It's still more than likely a break in the optical ring considering that's the last thing touched.
60/40 odds IMHO it's ring/fuse.
Also there are 4 (or more?) fuse boxes in these vehicles and a Bentley will help locate one in question.

Wow, what a sh*tty situation.

I'd say you have two choices:
  1. Go to Audi and spend a mint, or two or three
  2. Buy VCDS which will cost less than option 1

We're all happy to help each other troubleshoot issues here.
Problem is without codes and ability to reset them we don't have much to go on.

The Bentley is incredibly useful even for someone like me who almost never does the work himself.
I've seen whole procedures copied/pasted in other forums but that's a copyright violation....

Back to the problem, I'd disconnect the Dension for now and try to get things back up and running.
You said you installed a video interface too - as part of the Dension or another module ?

Best thing to do it put it all back to stock, diagnose/fix, and then try again.

Keep us posted and we'll do what we can to help.

No it was a xcarlink video interface thats when all the trouble started i had the dension in for awhile with no problems. everything was working great for awhile before it took a dump. i will purchase a vag com though because i know one is needed for diagnosis. i still need to pull everything back out and hook up everything back to factory and see what i get. gotta work today but should get at it tomorrow
