mishar i have check the optical between j523 and j533 i cant seem to find anything wrong with it i have check that connection more times than i can count because it was the easiest for 1 and the closes device after i got j533 optical failure

I have disconnected all add on devices and their power wires and connected everything back factory with the same results. i forgot to mention when you open any door you get the popping from the rear without the mmi try to reboot

using a flash light i disconnect the optical from j533 and j523 and cd changer. i started a j533 use the light to shine through the cable got light out a j523 and the other out at cd changer as it should be.

Bigdawg,
What are the HW:numbers and the SW:numbers on the replacement unit you installed ?

Below are pictures of a 2004 A8 mmi and a 2005 A8.

the 04 is SW:4E0 910 729 B 015, and the 05 is the other, NOW if you installed a unit with a 4F0 also pictured that will not work as it is for a A6.

Just thinking all possibilities....

found the problem a melted fiber optic cable between cd changer and Data Bus On Board Diagnostic Interface -J533 everything is a go now. thanks for all your help
