Default MMI Navigation Upgrade

Hey Everybody!!

I was just wondering, has anyone upgraded their nav dvd to one of the newer years?

I have an 07 and just wanted to see if the graphis for the 12/13 dvd looked on our screens.

If anyone has any pictures, they would be greatly appreciated.

I've upgraded to 2013 just yesterday. No difference in graphics from 2004 or 2011. Just the newest additions to the map and some to the software (I don't know what they are but when first started with new DVD it upgraded something). Useful in this ever changing world.

Default I think OP means the upgrade from 2G

For OP, that never happened in the U.S. as MMI moved from 2G to 3G. Happened in Europe circa 2009 w/ the high end equipped D3's IIRC. The system is similar basically to what you now see w/ D4's, other than the internet connectivity stuff that has now also been layered in.

Very expensive to implement from a 2G system like a U.S. D3 w/ H/W changes; not sure if anyone has ever actually done it. Definitely not a iPhone era just download some new app thing.

It's really sad we have to pay $250 for map updates when you can go out and buy a whole GPS unit with live traffic and free lifetime maps for <$100.

Yes, yes it is....

On the D4 map updates are $520 plus labor - has to be connected to the mothership.
Done via one SD card for the Nav and another that depends on options ordered.

Plus you get to pay $30 a month for T-Mobile for Google Maps overlay.
Which also give you WiFi in the vehicle and some other nice features.

Then if you want traffic (TMC), well that's a special SiriusXM subscription for $44/yr you can only get if you also have SiriusXM radio subscription.

That's why I prefer one of these. No traffic, roads, CO₂ ...
