As I look
at the original post by carterleeds, it appears that you have intermittent operation of your MMI, it may be a dieing MMI control head or a faulty connection some where in the system, can you save or print all of your scans, then replace all fuses and anything else you disconnected, next I would clear all codes and do a fresh full scan and post it here.
If you are comfortable looking into the most ring, I would check all connection, meaning you would have to pull the glove box assembly to check MMI CH and the CAN connections, also in your trunk along with the NAV are the AM-FM tuner box, sat tuner if equipped, TV tuner if equipped, etc. be sure to check all, and if you have a fiber test ring pictured below you can check each component one at a time and see if thee MMI stay in operation, say without the NAV.

johnnyj the fibre optic ring tester, where can i get one from?
also i will be checking the fibre optic connections as suggested, so far i have checked the 2 fibre optic connectors in the boot which is connected to the silver box under the nav system (yellow and white connector) ive removed it and secured it back unto the box properly, i think the white plug was slightly loose, however still no luck.

Yes and No....
according to your scan you do have the TV tuner, so the part you have list is without the "FABS green connector" being part number 4E0 035 729 and will not work with the TV tuner, the MMI control module part number "4E0 035 729 A" has the correct FABS green connector.
Now to make sure which one you need pull the glove box and check for part # and also the green plug...
Also call Carl at 8 parts from the one you listed and ask him for the [4E0 035 729 A] He sold me one just bit ago for $190 GBP or $306.57 USD, I have purchased parts from Carl several times and he is very helpful and willing to deal.

unit completely dead now or are you still getting some use, meaning are you saying that the CD, nav, radio plays with sound, but no mmi screen up/down or and no picture, just so we are clear, as your 07 MMI CH scan shows cannot be reached

basically i have to 3 button reset for it to work but it takes a few times. everything works it is just very tempremental with regards to the mmi actually powering up. sometimes when it does power up the cd player will work and play sound, but screen frezzes and cant use control pad, other times it will work fine but still needing to reset it. so basically works but always needs a 3button reset and this will need doing 3 times atleast before it works. baffling i know.
no nav cd was purchased off ebay and its not factory its a copy i think, newer maps 2012 version, i have used it and worked fine but i guess not anymore as the nav is getting stuck now after the battery problem.
the date on calender is wrong most likely because i did clear codes, the scan i posted half of them problems wernt there before the battery problem. the component protection, does that mean its like a shut down, because there is still sound comming through..

also with regards to the update software SW version i have purchased the 3cd from ebay vag guy, havnt used it as yet was planning to but not got round to it been busy. so updateing isnt a problem if needed with mmi ecu.
