Hello Carter,
I just read your email and it is a tough call to make, yes to me it sounds like the MMI CH is on it's way out, as it shows "Address 07: Control Head Cannot be reached"
, but did you remove the copied NAV DVD Disc from NAV unit and leave the NAV unit empty and see what it did, also where are you ?
Have you done anything besides the battery with the vehicle ?
I know you said you took the control panel apart for cleaning, are all the buttons moving freely ? And I mean any and every button that has to do with anything running through the MMI system.
If all these are OK and NAV empty, then I would have to say go for thee MMI CH, now I know you listed the one with the "A" from A8 Parts, But do call Carl there and try to work the price on that one, as he has sold the same model to me and others at $190.00 GBP.
Also just a note, both MMI CH's from Carl at A8 Parts in the UK. did NOT go into component protection when installed in vehicles here in the United States, but MMI CH's from US cars put into US car's 1 out of 3 went into component protection here, and that is $100.00 to $150.00 USD.

So I am having the same problem you are remember ?
Although I am still waiting for the VAGCOM cable to come-- I solved the dead battery portion, well kinda, I pulled the 30amp and 5 amp fuse controlling the NAV and the Sound System (Left side of boot)... this has cured my dead battery problem. But obviously still not the problem as a whole.
Hopefully we can compare scans when I get mine

Yeh that seemed to work for me too. however i did not pull the 5amp only 30amp, but will pull 5amp and see results.
does anyone know why this has happened? is it because of the mm ecu CH gone bad?

well ive been fiddling with mine today. seems to be a funny connection with the cd changer. everytime i wiggle the fibre optic connection, it seems to boot up up fine. duno if its just me, but;
ive now put back in all fuses and left everything the way it was, making sure the mmi was working, while trying to make sure the cd changer dosent move the slightest. so will check in the morning if the battery has died or stayed alive. this wil then give me a more clear idea of whats draining the battery and why the mmi is frezzing.
if battery still dies then i know its the mmi ecu control module. if it dosent die then its the cd changer or the nav as the red light seems to stay on even after shut down of the car, dont know if thats normal but e.g. lock little brother in boot with iphone light and tell him to sit tight for 5mins and watch the red light on nav.
i have however still ordered the control head mmi ecu from lithunia via ebay for £152 including shipping, will take 7 days to arrive, but its a small price to pay if it is that which has gone.

I literally just recieved my cable... I am going to guess either our Control Module went south or that there is a break in the optical ring somewhere... hence the NAV and MMI keep trying to start up.
