If it is still under warranty, then take it in to get fixed under warranty.

I pulled off the trim around the MMI and was surprised to see a thin string like a window blind. This is how the screen is moved from hidden to up position. I think the string may have gotten bound up in there somewhere. I was not brave enough to pull it apart. The car is still under warranty so I will get to a dealer. Problem is the dealers are in Charleston, SC and Wilmington, NC. both about 90 miles from my home. Now that is stuck in the up position I will wait til I get to CT where I bought the car. It has a recall to on the cooling system. Thanks

100 miles is under 2 hours each way. Just a pleasant morning jaunt. You might have to leave it there and drive a loaner for a while.

Ya, Headed to CT in July so i will wait and hope the mechanism holds up. Is there a fuse that disconnects the the motor????? I have a VAG-COM cable but there is no error code to deal with. The radio stays on after the ignition is off, so I push the volume button til the screen goes off. 2 weeks to CT. In the stuck up position i can still use the backup cam, radio, MMI controls and nav system.

Sooo, I called the dealer where I bought the CPO car in 2015. Still under warranty however, MMI system is not covered after 50k miles. I pulled the mechinism out again, did a little electrical detective work and found the limit switches to have different OHM values. So something is stopping the motor from moving the display more than a inch. I worked the display to the locked up position and disconnected the drive motor power. WALA the display is now up for good. Everything still works just fine NAV RADIO SAT TEL. and it shuts off when the ignition is turned off. Just to be clear this is a 2013 A6 Premium Plus. Putting the last piece of trim up was a little hard but I can live without a $2,000 potential bill.

Likely the gears need replacing.
Dozens of threads on this already.
This youtube video shows an interesting hack to hold/jam it permanently open/up with some Perspex if you don't want to replace the gears.
