Default MMI Update to 3360

First post here, recently bought an '06 A8L which I absolutely love, however I was disappointed that there was no aux option. I did a fair amount of research and decided I will be purchasing an AMI to install, however I read that your MMI has to be updated to version 3360 or newer. I also read that in order to update to anything newer you have to first update to 3360, then to the newer updates. I was able to find the newest version on ebay for $30, however I cannot find version 3360 anywhere and the dealer told me they wouldn't be able to get it for me (they also quoted me $265 + tax for just the newest update cd). Im currently on version 1190 and need some help finding a 3360 update cd. Thanks for any help!

If you have an 06 then you can update direct to 4610.

No need to do any interim update. This is only applicable to older cars with software version 1070 or earlier.

Lots of more detailed info on this site if you search.

Thanks for the help. Just very confusing constantly reading different opinions. As you commented I was reading this from another post:
"If you do this, do the first step off of NO later than 3360. You absolutely MUST do 3360 before 4140, or it fries the MMI controller."
However, right before that I was reading a post where someone skipped the update.

Another related question, is there a specific AMI unit I have to buy or just any of them? I found some part numbers on other posts but couldn't find any with the part number they listed.

Exactly. But they realized that it is ultimately stupid and corrected it with 4610, which is the last update. No need for anything before it.

4610 update part number: 4F0-998-961. Forget eBay.

Default I'd done upgrading from 1190 to 3360 then 4610...

It might be "stupid" but it actually worked and if you want to see it in action instead of listening to all these advices.

I was in the same boat as you, called the dealers and they said my car needs no update after 1190 and they don't sell these CD. Someone offered me his CD that he used to update SUCCESSFULLY , I downloaded them and burnt them correctly on new CDs and they worked. If you want the CD to update to 3360 which is the AB, PM me.
The forum is great, but there also tons of "never done" advices out there. If you want to see anything that's done on your 06 and actually worked, look at my signature.
I do like "show me the money" instead of just off the air advices.

Cheers,

Louis

Default Or just refer to the Audi TSB

Here is the TSB for it that details it all exactly. Worked for me perfectly with OEM CD's from the dealer. Although as my original sw was earlier than 1070 (it was 0600) I had to do the double step update via 3360 to get to 4610.

If you already have sw 1070 or later and for ****s and giggles want to update it via 3360, have at it. It's just a completely unnecessary step.
