MMI update not working

Here are the contents of these CDs
Kosher or not - these are some types of copies - get copies from someone who've done it and use it.
If you want, I can burn you my copies that's proven working. If you paid a few bucks for some so called "official upgrade CDs", there are none because they don't exist at the dealers - I called the reputable dealers and they said mine is done at 1190 - there are no update CDs. I don't believe in being hypocritical - MMI upgrade is NOT official so forget about official CDs.
I downloaded the one that's proven working - because someone already used them.
I hate to see people are struggling on something that should be.
By the way, what's your current MMI software version - it may not see it because you may have to upgrade to 3360 first? I have no idea how these works, so just a thought - I did the long way - 1190 to 3360 - 3360 - 4610 since I'm not very bright.
Cheers,
Louis

Louis,
thanks for the offer to burn the CDs for me but I think the problem is my early MMI SW version. In the third post of this thread I stated the version: 0316 if I am extrapolating the number correctly. Thanks also for taking time to post the screenshot of the disc content; that is what I have, too.
Regarding the authenticity of the discs, as I said in the first post, I bought them (for $20) from Audiusaparts.com which is actually Sunset Imports, an authorized Audi dealership, so I think you're wrong.
Nathan, to answer your questions; Yes, Maybe, What? Nav needs to be updated for MMI updates? Cite your source, please!
gdaniel, I tried them separately and together, no luck. I assume it loads into #1 slot? It loaded into the leftmost position (I took out all the other discs). Thanks though.
MP, no slave devices, thanks. And as for the workaround, I searched for the phrase "no valid update cd found" and found, on AudiForums.us, a post from someone who had this exact problem and yes, he did patch his way to success via one stepping-stone update, so now all I need is for someone who has the discs but doesn't need them to donate them to my cause. Oh, Jake?
I'd love to know how my car has a folder full of maintenance invoices from the Audi dealer but never had the SW update(s) since 0316!?

...could it be because you're working off an older MMI version? Would you have to do the intermediate step of upgrading to 3360 first, and then to 4610? I wouldn't think so but...
Also, since your vehicle is a MY 2004 did you upgrade to the (minimum) of Navigation DVD Version 5? I saw somewhere in the install instructions that was needed in order to do the MMI update.

One BIG, old caution on MMI "stepping stone" updating:
If you do this, do the first step off of NO later than 3360. You absolutely MUST do 3360 before 4140, or it fries the MMI controller. Basically I recommend you ignore 4140, which I think is now best viewed as fundamentally flawed in this updating approach and superseded by 4610 and 4610's all in one update approach anyway.

Guys am I wrong here ???
Post a picture so we can confirm.
My screenshot below is 2740 IIRC
Had a 2" thick file that came with mine and it was never done either.
Unless the PO made a fuss or there is a Campaign, Audi doesn't usually do them.

https://www.audiworld.com/forums/sho...2849789&page=4
which essentially references the PDF here:
https://www.audiworld.com/forums/sho...5&postcount=10
Which on the first page of the PDF states as follows:
"A8 MY2004: JF campaign (MMI update to Zug 317) had to be performed.
A8 MY2004/05 and A6 MY2005 with Navigation require at least Navigation DVD Version 5.
If an older Version (1 or 4) is installed, the customer must purchase the package MMI System Update + Navigation DVD Version 2007.
If Version 5, 6, 2007 is installed, the vehicle only requires an MMI System Update."
Now, the caveat here is that someone else actually posted a newer/updated set of instructions for the 4610 update as follows below...but I followed the PDF set linked initially above and worked for me (however, I was only going from 1190->4610):

The unique thing about the 4610 MMI update is that it is two CDs, with the directions specifying installing CD1 first and then CD2 (which would be the natural order to do it if one were guessing). The basic procedure is the same from other versions, install just one CD at a time in slot 1 of the CD drive, disconnect other media/devices (AMI - iPod or USB, Bluetooth - don't have a phone paired), turn off most accessories to limit drain on battery, have car on a battery charger.

Intermediate MMI update required
It might make more sense to follow the 4610 instructions or Audi Telephone RVU instead of the 4140 instructions.
The TSB references ZUG 317, which I believe is 10.70. I believe you need to update to 10.70 using update CD# W42 A8 317, and then you can update to 46.10 from there. However, the TSB that nathanwind/mishar references seems to suggest that you can update to 33.60 instead of 10.70. Either way, it looks like it will require a two step update process.

There is only thing that I question about these discs are the price of $20. I haven't seen anything official stuff that sold through Audi dealers are $20, especially with upgrading software for MMI.
I can say 100% safely that the 4610 software update only exist within the Audi forums. It's official only for people who buy used-up old Audis and try to make it new and updated like me.
Cheers,
Louis

4F0 998 961 This guys are bound by contract with Audi USA to sell only genuine Audi parts. I also doubt that forums invented all previously mentioned TSB's.

subit0, thanks for the great info. I guess (without even looking) I need the nav update first (sigh). To the back burner it goes since I have more pressing expenses at present (going back to school, believe it or not - midlife crisis).
Nathan, MP, thanks for your good info, too. I guess I'm lucky I didn't "brick" my car.
This thread is turning into a pretty rich source of MMI update info!
