Default MMI update question

I know, I know. We have a lot of discussion on this. I will cut to the chase.

I have MMI version 1190 on my 2006 Audi A8L. I called the dealer to ask for a quote to upgrade my MMI to the latest 4140 or maybe even 4610. They quoted me $123 dollars! Not bad though given the car is out of warranty and my bluetooth is a bit buggy right now with noise in the background when speaking and I also will be having a new HTC incredible android phone in the car. Its a suberb phone and better than my Iphone now. So, should I upgrade to 3360 or 4140 or 4610??? Just garnering some suggestions as to whether it is worth going to the highest MMI version? And I do not have AMI right now, but I plan to get it soon.

My 2006 Audi A8L has been with me from the beginning and has 112k miles on it.

From previous conversations (and there have been many) I understand that the upgrade in your case would be beneficial due to the bluetooth option. Mine is a 2004 and I don't have the option. Also given your "vintage" or classic" version (mine is even older) any bugs should be taken care of in the 3360 or newer version. For $123 I would definitely have the dealer do it.

Wow! Where are you located? and what dealership is it that gave you that quote?

I recently had the 55k Mile service done and they quoted me $625 (MMI Update) + $299 (New Nav Disc)

I would definately get the update if I was quoted $123.

Default Do it.

For $123, no brainer. Seems very low to me since they need to do at least two updates to get to 4140. The updates take a fair while to load and clichk thru the various steps.

Audi documentation once available indicated 4140 included some specific tweaks to improve bluetooth, particularly with a lot of smart phones.

To get to 4140 they have to go through 3360 first. 3360 will also get rid of the lawyer nag screen, at least up front when you first start using it each time, plus get rid a lot of the various prior bugs.

I live in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. My dealership is Fred Lavery Company and they sell Audis, Land Rovers, and Porsche in Birmingham, Mi. They are charging competitive prices these days which is good. I am likely to upgrade to 4140 version since I have a new smartphone.

I'm taking my '06 SWB sport in next week for the coil recall- I have the OEM MMI and may ask them what it would cost to upgrade, but I'm afraid the service writer will probably ask me, "what is MMI?" I know I'll need to actually talk to the service tech himself...

The dealership actually has a ring binder full of Update CD's for various functions of the whole line-up cars. If you get on their good side, and they treat you like a respectable customer, they might show you this collection of CD's. They can make money marketing updates if they wanted too.

Default MMI UPDATE DONE.

I have version 4610 now from 1190 before. It loses that lawyer screen and adds some more options under telephone, car, etc. However, the PROBLEM IS:

I cannot see the temperature gauge change on the MMI screen when I increase or decrease the temperature like before. I can see it on the digital screen near the **** showing 72 degrees to 74 degrees, etc. I cannot see which vents I want to choose on the MMI screen, only on the small digital screen next to the ***** on the climate control panel.

I am not sure I mind this at all but I wonder why its not showing up on the MMi screen anymore? I heard some people had this problem. What did you guys do when you could not see the climate info on the MMI screen after the upgrade?

Default Haven't ever seen/heard that issue

Never came up on mine, including my own update to 4140. Don't remember mention of that in a TSB. My guess would be a faulty coding when they updated MMI, like they didn't configure the HVAC option right in the option codes--front only or front and rear controls, or a variety of other things that could cause it to not communicate correctly. Those shouldn't have changed to start with, but hard to guess what they might have done. In any case, not the normal/expected result to lose the HVAC display in the main screen when you change the HVAC related controls.

Default Here is what they must of miss

I went back to the dealership and they confirmed that the HVAC stuff wont show on the MMI so they will look it up again on Monday and contact me. Its not much of a big deal, just some setting changes through the VAGCOM.
