Default MMI Upgrade Problems

Hi all,

Need some help here, I recently purchased the software update CD's. I was successfully able to update to 3.3.60, but now when I try to install the 2 part cd Part# 4F0 998 961, when installing the 1st cd it goes through 100% and then stays at the screen below and doesn't move.

Am I doing something wrong here?

What is the purpose of Cd#1?
What is the purpose of Cd#2?

Your help in this matter is greatly appreciated.

Disk 1 is a clean up disk for the Bluetooth. Disk 2 is the actual MMI upgrade. If you are hanging up on disk one, you are having some issue with your Bluetooth. Is your Bluetooth working properly?

TSHong- The bluetooth on my car works fine. Can I skip the CD1 and go directly to CD2?
After updating to 3360 I've lost the battery level option in the system menu as well.

Yes, mine hung up as well. My BT module functions but I cannot get update disk 1 correctly. I cannot get my contacts to download but I make and receive calls without an issue, so I've left it alone. I can replace the BT module or get a Denison which has BT and AMI like functions. The only issue is that some have reported the BT is not that great with the Denison unit.

I then updated with disk 2 from 1170 to 4610 without any issues.

So I did skip CD1 and installed CD2, after the installation I no longer have the battery level option, background lighting option, instrument cluster option. Also the version option is no longer in the mmi.

What in the world is going on? I tried accessing the green hidden menu and it won't come on. Someone please help me out here.

Do you have VCDS/Vag-com. You will need to to some adaptation to bring those menus back. I remember I had to do that for my HVAC settings to show up again because I use it a lot. I still have not brought back the battery meter because I never use that screen.

You definitely need it, but in this case, as far as I remember, you can enable Battery Menu from the Hidden Menu. Go to MMI than scroll down to some "Maske" and there find it. But if the Hidden Menu is not enabled on your car you need VCDS to enable it.

That is the "problem" i have too...

My green " hidden menu" is disabled currently like yours. I will need to get a VCDS to enable it. The link I provided in the previous post shows how to enable your hidden menu.

Mishar is right ..I NEED to get this tool..... but I just dropped $1350 + $850 to get my timing belt and all its components changed AND done right.

So I will need to wait to get it.
