Had the car out in late afternoon a few days ago, and while on a well shaded back road I noticed that the instrument cluster had no illumination other than the indicator needles.
I turned on the headlights and the dash guages then were illuminated. I thought: Oh boy, there's a glitch here. Today, I re-read the owners manual, and low and behold, the car's system is designed to NOT illuminate the dash guages under low outside lighting conditions when the headlights are turned off. The reasoning is to remind you to TURN ON the headlights when outside lighting conditions warrant it!!!
An illuminating experience, indeed :^)

...in auto mode. Many of the roads I drive on are unlit twisties, and I find the fogs help w/visibility---especially for lower front side road debris.

but practically all our roads are lit. Which is a bit over the top actually. Some speak of light pollution. Apparently Belgium can be seen from space at night.
