My turn signal stalk on the steering column has a short in it when I try to activate the flash to pass feature. Could someone be so kind to give me a hand and let me know how involved this is? I hope I only have to remove the column covers, if it's more than that I don't think I'll be doing it. If u have the instructions from the Bentley that would help a million. Thanks

from having done it on the C5 A6. Likely the lower dash panel in order to then free up the lower sides of the column covers. The big(gest) task will be pulling the airbag (w battery disconnected) and steering wheel to in turn get to the clock spring and such just in front of where the switch, connectors, etc. will be. Bentley will confirm, but figure that's the likely general scope of disassembly.

Well, Bentley says that all from driver side knee trim to the steering wheel has to come off. I am digging in there today in order to put some contact improving stuff on my clock-spring sensor. I will check if that switch can be changed some other way. Bentley (Audi) sometimes goes unnecessarily deep.

Just finished it. As you can see from the timing it is not a big deal. I took my steering wheel off (Allan key 3/8 fits on a metric car?) including airbag. No problem there. My only advice is: do that standing beside your car and never turn its metal base towards yourself.
To take column covers off you need at least 3" long, thin (no sockets) T10 screwdriver. I didn't take bottom part off, but looking at the signal switch I would say you have to. So it would be driver side knee trim and yet another airbag. This one you don't have to disconnect. If you decide to pay somebody do it for you don't let them B.S. you. It is not complicated.
P.S. I don't know if it is well known but to align your steering wheel you just turn your wheels strait, lock the steering and force the steering wheel strait (not difficult at all).

Like Mishar said, it is a simple job and does require that the steering wheel be removed. It is really not a big deal.
1- Remove airbag and steering wheel (in center position)
2- Remove upper and lower panel
3- Disconnect switch module (3 connectors)
4- Remove clockspring
5- Remove switch module
6- Remove turn signal switch from switch module
Reverse for installation.
Cheers.
