Default New Audi A8L or MB S500. Did any of you consider buying S500?

What made you go with Audi A8L over MB500? Likes and dislikes if you may, please. My father wants to buy a new car next year and he is talking about S500 or upper model (if he goes with MB, it will be new 2006 S-class) and I would like to tell him about A8L. Since I don't drive A8L, I really can't talk about what A8L is really like (performace, reliability, ride quality, handling and etc...). Any advise from you A8 owners will be helpful. Thanks in advance.

Default I first looked a the E-class Benz last year and then saw the A8L.

Then I started to compare the S-class with the Audi and I found that I liked the look of the A8L and its interior much more than that of the Benz. Plus the fact that the Benz is almost "a dime a dozen" and seems to be everywhere. I like to drive something that everyone else doesnt! The early A8L "launch" vehicles had their share of problems which are shared by some later production cars as well but I dont believe that its any different than that of the other German manufacturers. BTW, all-wheel drive is standard with the A8.

Default The problems with the new A8 are primarily (but definitely NOT) completely limited

to early launch cars. Based on AudiWorld, most but not all of the problems with the new A8 are in North America with the highest frequency of problems in North America. Sure, there are problems with the cars overseas, but the quantity, severity are frequency of problems with the new A8 seems highest in North America, again, based on reports from A8 owners here on AudiWorld. And there are many Audi owners from around the world that are members of AudiWorld whom frequently visit AudiWorld, provided that they can speak good English, of course.

Default The reason for the highest frequency of complaints

coming from North America is because, I assume, more cars are sold here! I dont quite understand your last sentence though.

Default Re: New Audi A8L or MB S500. Did any of you consider buying S500?

The new A8L pretty much comparbly equipped to a S500 is about $20,000 less. I liked the styling of the A8L and the interior quality , fit and finish is much better in the Audi. Mercedes has just not been what it used to be lately. The only other car that compares to the Audi as far as fit and finish is the Lexus LS430 According to my car magazines Lexus is going to build a long wheelbase LS 430 with 4matic next year- that would probably be really nice. I love the way my 2004 A8L drives. I taken many long trips and the seat is the most comfortable I've ever sat in. I drove the MB S500 and didn't like the seat that much and the extra $20.000.00 bought nothing but the brand prestige(right or wrong) of a Mercedes.

Default Don't know about that

These days, Audi sells more vehicles in China than in North America.

Hi Greenie I've been very busy at work and my 16 year old daughter is in soccer and AAU basketball at the same time, so if I'm not working I'm at some game!! I've taken several long trips in my A8L--I've got 9950 miles and still no problems of significance. It really is sweet on a long trip!! It is the best car I've ever owned!! On my last trip last weekend to the twin cities area (MSP/ST Paul) I got 24.9 MPG at 76 MPH indicated (about 71 MPH actual) Jeff
