New Audi A8L or MB S500. Did any of you consider buying S500?

Before I even looked at the Audi I checked out the 2001 S500. I just assumed I would stick with MB, but I was disappointed with the new interior, weaker engine, and smaller size. In my mind, the new 500 did not have the wow factor of my '98. I had 19" AMG Monoblocks on my '98 with 295 tires at the rear, the car looked big and fast.
When I looked at the D2 A8L, I was totally immpressed by the whole package and for 20K less. I bought the Audi on the spot and drove it home that evening. Now with the new D3 A8L, you couldn't even get me in the MB showroom. Although, I do like that E55.

In it's first year, Audi plans to sell 45,000-56000 new A6s in Germany and China and just 27,000 new A6s in the US, a mere 2,700 of those the 4.2. So I would think that Audi sells more A8Ls in China than North America. But as I said before, I don't know for sure that Audi sells more A8Ls in China than in North America. But I do know for a fact that Audi sells a lot more vehicles overall in China than in North America.

It's a truly beautiful sedan, and should be closer in price to the A8. Best looking Benz I've *ever* seen - probably the first one the Chrysler stylists had a chance to influence. No telling when 4Matic will be available on it, though.
I looked at the S500 but, where I live, MB are more common than big Chevies, and they cost too much. The dealer who had one with 4Matic lied to me a number of times during and after the test drive (a drive that was unimpressive, btw).
