Happy New Year to all!
I recently upgraded to a new phone (HTC Evo LTE) and while it paired to my 2006 A8L easily, the outgoing voice is terrible and people on the other end can't hear me. Turn off bluetooth and the connection is quite good.
Any suggestions as to what may be going on with my cell phone connection? Would a MMI software update be a likely solution?
Thanks in advance.

Could be an issue with the microphone itself. 75% sure it isn't the phone. Try using a different phone to ensure it is the microphone in the car. I use the bluetooth in the car mainly when going under 50mph, any more and it is too uncomfortable for the person on the other end with the noise.
You should update your MMI software to at least 33.6 because of the bluetooth enhancements and contact transfer anyway.
FWIW I have used numerous blackberries, iPhones, and quite a few android devices in my A8's and never had an issue or advantage with one phone over another.
Also if you want to test the microphone itself and bypassing the cell phone; use the voice control feature. By this, go under AM/FM and use the voice control to store the station, when you store the station using a voice command it replays what you "said" the station's title is. You can then hear what you recorded and see if it is abnormally sounding. Trial and error while driving vs. while parked can also rule out wind/car noise being the only factor. I believe the microphone is located above your head in the same location as the sunroof/moonroof switch.
