Default New (to us) A8... what do I need to know?

Normally my wife and I do 3-6 months of research and test-driving before buying a car. This time, it was love-at-first-drive for her, and the Audi was a late entry to our narrowed field. So, long story short, we bought this before I had a chance to do much in the way of research.

So we got a 2008 A8 with 101,000 miles. Clean Carfax, second owner. Said he "got all the routine maintenance done", but who knows if he did or not. We've had it for 2 days, and I haven't had a chance to pull out a light and my jack to give it a good once-over yet.

(I do smell some burning oil under the hood after it's warmed up, and my experience tells me it's probably a leaking valve cover gasket. Had to do that a few times on my old '94 Saturn, but I imagine it's a tad more difficult on this car.)

That said, I'd like a quick run-down on what to look for, what to expect, and what everyone recommends getting done based on years and mileage.

Thanks!

Yes, I know the feelings. Well, welcome to the forum, if the smell doesn't bother too much, just enjoy the car and please, don't try to make it into a new car. To me when we buy an A8 over 100k mile, think of it as a disposable car (always in my case), the less money you put in, the max you get out. When you have time, just check these things and fix one by one if necessary.

I'm sure it's a very nice car, especially 08 with all the upgrades done to that year.

Cheers,

Louis
