I went to the local dealer to inquire as to the part# for the XM "plug-n-nplay" box, so I could get the proper one on ebay for half price. They told me they were phasing it out, and it's special order only....at $99 closeout! No returns.....

...to work for the new company. I really don't know how they will accomplish this. Possible dual broadcasts for a fixed period of time (prossibly dictated by the terms of the merger to placate FTC)and for how long they will continue do this. If this assumption is correct, then I (who has an XM module) will have access to the new broadcasts for "a reasonable length of time" from the date of purchase of the unit (or from the time the last XM unit was sold as 'new').
...lots of guesses here....
other input appreciated...

has stated that both services will be available on either's tuners after the merger. Given the amount of resistance to this action at both the FCC and FTC, if it goes through, there is not doubt that his will be a condition of the merger being allowed. Further, if a common set of channels is ever developed, with the various similar formats merged, those will then no doubt be broadcast to both types of tuners as well for a period of time. When common hardware is then chosen, I have no doubt that free or low-cost exchanges for whichever format loses out will be the norm. Just think of the complaints if, for instance, Acura owners having XM with the built in traffic alerts lose the ability to have that service. Just won't happen.

From what I've learned, the $500 XM box is for cars equipped with NAV. The $99 box won't work if you have the NAV system.
