Default +1 0n bad battery

I've come to give batteries one pass on slow cranking, unless I already know it was my fault w/ lights on, too much power drain w/ doors and other things triggering power use. If it happens time #2, time for a new battery. Otherwise, by time #3 it's usually the stranded family member, or let down when I don't need to be calling AAA or trying to persuade someone to give me a jump after hours.

Confirmed!

I left the door open for 30 minutes while I took a phone call, and the battery was completely dead when I returned.

Replaced with a new one, all good now.

Lesson learned! Keep the doors and trunk closed at all times when the car is off - especially important when detailing or prolonged VAG-COM scanning.

Default +1 on this too

From experience, add to your list during prolonged VAG COM scanning to be sure the heated seats are off, or the seat ventilation if so equipped and activated, plus defeat the DRL's via the MMI setting, turn off auto headlights if dark or inside a garage, shut down the stereo and turn off the HVAC. Open windows before starting if need be. Flick off the overhead switch for the interior lights if you expect to open the door occasionally during the test. With those items all on or off, I can either halve or double my VAG COM diagnostic time before I start getting the screen will shut down in three minutes nag messages.
