Hi all.(06 a8 swb) I searched some threads on this but didn't get a whole lot. Car just hit the 88k mark. Bought it last December with 86k. Has new pads and rotors in rear new pads old rotors in front. I never use the parking break and was driving when light came on. Any suggestions ? I don't have the tools to scan the car myself. Brake is operable and sounds normal when I engage/disengage. Thanks

See this current thread and my answer there: https://www.audiworld.com/forums/sho...php?p=24458197 To solve it you will need access to VAG COM to go through the rear brake opening and closing steps and the coding.

In the way of some encouragement, mine has the parking brake warning occasionally especially when cold, then it stays off for 7-8,000 miles. My understanding is that the worst thing that can happen due to ignoring it is either the pad-worn-out warning comes on too soon / too late, or your parking brake might actually be malfunctioning and get stuck on, in which case there's a hex wrench in the toolkit to manually unscrew and release it. Never seen either happen to anyone on here IIRC, FWIW.
You need a VCDS scan, and to clear the codes; and with VCDS you can also see which side is causing it.
Edit: If you get to a VCDS, of course it'd be preferable to do what MP advises.![Wink](https://www.audiworld.com/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif)
Bottom line, don't lose any sleep over this!
HTH,
Tom

Thanks Tom
The brakes were done over 1000 miles ago so if it was coded wrong I figure the light should have been on long ago. I won't be ignoring it. I have an extended warranty through careguard so ya know how that goes. I'll repost when fixed

I disconnected the Hazard switch in the MMI dash panel. and my air bag + parking break light came on, took to the dealer, they charge me $35.00 to reset it, and all good.

If a so-called "qualfied shop" did your rear brakes, take it back and have them show you they are adapting the rear brakes. If they cannot do that, get your money back. Except for the pads of course.
