Default Mechanism seized

So I took the motor off the caliper and applied 12V to it and I could hear the motor was trying to turn.

I sprayed a bunch of WD40 into the mechanism and left it for an hour and tried again but still nothing. So I took the swash plate gear mechanism out and tried to free it up directly but it's totally seized up and no amount WD40 and brute force would shift it. Looks like some moisture got into it which has corroded the bearings solid. Anyway, left the gear mechanism out and put the unit back on the caliper so at least now the electronics no longer "see" any problems with the system (unless you operate the parking brake or until it self calibrates of course, but that can be reset) so the infuriating constant warning tone has now stopped (although pulling the fuses stops it too )

So I need a new part, but all of a sudden the part price seems to have jumped quite dramatically. What was around $360 in December is now $400-$550. What's the deal with that? Why the sudden price hikes? Anyone got any insider knowledge on this or know where the cheapest parts can be found?

Nice one, thanks. Ordered. Hopefully I'll have it back up and running in a few days time.

Looks like I am in this boat too. I have never used the parking brake and even contacted previous owner who says he never used it. Jumped in the car the other day and all parking brake lights were lit up and flashing on the dash with the annoying beep. Car drove just fine. VCDS says power failure so I am assuming that one of the motors has seized. Will try the removal and regrease method tonight and see if that fixes it. Hoping it does. I don't want to spend $500+ in parts for something I don't use.

First try cleaning and lubricating harnesses with some DeoxIT or similar.

+1

The parking brake will have tried to do it's self calibration routine (does it automatically every 1000km if brake is not used) but failed due to the motor being seized up, or a bad connection. Hopefully you'll be able to free it up. In the meantime pulling all the fuses (one for switch, one for ecu and one for each motor) will at least stop the infuriating and constant beep at anything above 5mph.

Got my new part a few days ago, just need to find time to fit it.

Parking break is used to measure rear brakes every so often. That's probably how it was used or worn. Regardless if you use it or not.

Cleaned the connectors, greased the motors, you can turn the parking brake off and on and feel the motors activate. Still no solution as to what is tripping the 02433 code. Pulled out the fuse for now.

Would hate to spend $500+ on a new motor for this not to be the issue.

Can you feel that motor is working? If it is working than you have synchronization problem. You have to fully open and fully close parking brake few times and they will eventually be synchronized.

Yes. Placing your hand on both motors while pushing the ebrake button allows you to feel them kick on and function. This is what VAGCOM is telling me:
02433 - Supply Voltage for Right Parking Brake Motor
