Good question. I checked it long ago. It may be a good time to recheck it.

Default here's part of the answer...

In Europe there has been a switch in that position since 04 and maybe even 03, but I don't know about 03. In the US we did not have the switch in 04, even as an option; but why we got the motor I do not know. I think the US market got the switch in 05, but certainly by 06. The switch just sends millivolt signals to the seat module and the seat module then sends the 12V juice to the motor as needed. No way I can think of to add a switch and get it wired into the module.

However, in my 04 I hooked a battery to that adjustment motor temporarily and used a momentary switch to run the motor inorder to lengthen the seat to fit me. That way at least when I am a passenger I am comfortable.

Thanks. Actually that's an important part of the answer. Rest of it, like why, we may newer know.

Now I will play with it. May be I will figure out how to make it work. As I remember there are wires that are supposed to be connected to that switch. I'll report any progress.

I only managed to waste some time. I am good at it.

I can move that front part of the seat (depth) by connecting power to the wire, but it won't clear the code. It seams that problem is with coding. Codes for both seats are the same and passenger seat doesn't change depth.

It would be very nice if somebody who doesn't have that switch and has VCDS (Jake, for example )check the code for the passenger seat and give it to me. Right code might fix the thing. Thank you in advance.

So does this confirm that the wiring is in place and all we need is to order the switch?

If you take a photo I will check with mine to see if I have an extra motor and try to work out which does what.
